Additional Details

"first edition published by the Reorganized Church, a division of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints protesting against the doctrine of polygamy . . . This edition served the Reorganized Church for many years, until new plates were made in 1897"--Sabin 83160; Flake 2943.
The Iowa-based Reorganized Church branched off from the Mormons in 1860, became the Community of Christ in 2001, and now claims a quarter of a million members. This copy was formerly the property of William D. Morton, one of the early leaders of the church, and a founding president of its Council of Seventies. The annotations reflect the careful indexing and close reading of a church elder, and also include the record of an 1885 marriage recorded by Morton.
an important association copy of the first edition of the community of christ's book of scripture.
